The campaign to end food poverty is about tackling the root causes of food insecurity and ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious, affordable food. Food poverty affects individuals and families who struggle to secure adequate meals due to financial hardship and wider socio-economic issues. No one should have to choose between heating and eating, and that’s why we’re working to create real, lasting change.
In our region, we’re proud to stand alongside fellow trade unions, community groups, activists, and local organisations in the fight against food poverty; in particular the Walton Vale Community Shop and Street Treats Manchester. From food banks providing essential support to advocacy work pushing for fair wages and stronger social safety nets, we’re committed to addressing both the immediate crisis and the long-term solutions. Education and awareness are key to breaking the stigma around food insecurity, and by working in partnership with charities, businesses, and local government, we can create a stronger, more coordinated response.
We encourage all our members to support their local food banks—whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word. Every contribution makes a difference to someone in need. If you require a food bank or would like to help, use the Find a Foodbank tool to locate your nearest one. To get involved in our campaign, please don’t hesitate to contact us:
