GMB members are leading the fight to Make Work Better in Amazon, campaigning for union recognition and a proper pay rise. Amazon is one of the richest companies on the planet, making enormous profits off the backs of its workers. Yet many Amazon workers earn just pennies above the minimum wage, face punishing working conditions, and are subjected to constant surveillance inside the company’s vast distribution centres. GMB has stood alongside Amazon workers for over a decade, challenging exploitation through protests, legal action, and sustained campaigning to demand better.
Amazon workers deserve their fair share of the profits they help create—and they deserve to be treated with respect at work. Too many are struggling to make ends meet, with more than half reporting that they have to borrow money to get by, and some even relying on food banks. That’s why GMB is calling for a proper pay rise of at least £17 an hour and for Amazon to recognise workers’ rights to organise and negotiate collectively. But instead of listening, Amazon continues to fight union recognition—running anti-union briefings, flooding sites with new staff to undermine organising, and even placing QR codes to push workers to cancel their GMB membership. GMB is challenging these tactics and taking formal steps to win legal recognition.
That’s why Amazon workers are joining GMB and taking historic strike action across the country. This campaign is about more than pay—it’s about dignity, safety, and the basic right to a voice at work. With growing support from the public and across the political spectrum, GMB members are standing up and making it clear: enough is enough. If you work at Amazon and are not yet a GMB member, join us today and send a clear message to Jeff Bezos that to unionise is not a crime.
